Historical Course of Change & Development
In the early stages, the legal deposit of Taiwan was stipulated in the publications law. It was abolished in January 1999 resulting in the temporary cancellation of the national collection of books and information. Fortunately, related regulations are now clearly stated in the Library Law which was formally promulgated and enforced in January 2001. It made possible the continuation of collecting national book information. To reach the goal of a complete preservation of national documents, numbers 2, 15, 18 of the Library Law clearly state that upon publication, a copy of any published materials such as books, periodicals, newspapers, audio visual materials, electronic media should be given to the National Library and the Legislative Yuan Library for legal deposit.
